At sea 2.0 – what’s different?

So we obviously liked last years transatlantic as we are doing it again…..

This time – the ship is even smaller. Still a sailboat (that motors a lot of the time). Still the same cruiseline. This year we will be on Wind Spirit (the sister ship of Wind Star) – that until recently was mostly sailing around French Polynesia (where we previously sailed on her – and felt/experienced her crashing into a dock – that is a different story ….)

Last year we were on Wind Surf. Wind Spirit is about two thirds the length of Wind Surf (360 feet long (440 feet including the bowsprit) compared to 535 feet (617 including the bowsprit)).  Wind Spirit also has only 5 decks (with two passenger cabin decks) whereas Wind Surf has 6 decks (with three passenger cabin decks). As a result, Wind Surf can accommodate up to 342 passengers, while Wind Spirit can accommodate up to 148 passengers.

We are wondering how many passengers there will be though – as the transatlantics usually do not fill up.

This year the trip is also one day longer (14 days at sea). We are still leaving from Lisbon – but we arrive (after no stops) in Barbados (whereas last year it was St Maarten).

We rented a Tesla to drive to Newark again. And then flew Polaris on united miles to Lisbon
