Today was a barbeque lunch on deck. The crew transformed the pool deck with tables and umbrellas and there was an amazing spread.
However – before the lunch started, some of us on the back deck spotted something off the starboard side. I volunteered to go to the bridge to check they had seen it and ask if they knew what it was (Wind Star has an open bridge – you can pretty much always go in and visit them unless they are docking). The captain (a Yorkshire man, Mark Roden from Hull) was there as he had just delivered his mid-day remarks – and the 3rd officer was on watch. They got the binoculars out when I pointed out the mystery object and changed course to investigate. It turned out to be a collection of probably fishing equipment – but it wasn’t clear until we got a lot closer. On the way to investigate we saw a pod of porpoises. And then some more flying fish. So quite the excitement – for half way across the ocean 🙂
